A young man in the modern era or Republican period comes from a declining family of metaphysics practitioners. He learns the family's ancestral Six Lines and Na Jia divination, using simple hexagrams to predict everyday happenings. After encountering a feng shui sorcerer, he gets drawn into a string of deadly cases involving haunted homes. He uses Six Lines divination to break the deadlock, befriends an heir to the Qimen tradition, and uncovers the lost secrets of his family's lineage.
Metaphysical scholarship drives the story, with the plot revolving around divination, breaking deadlocks, searching for dragon veins, locating auspicious sites, and bringing order to the world. It restores the Daoist core principles of “harmony between heaven and humanity, following the natural course of the Dao, and balance between yin and yang.”
