Shu Jingyi is a top student, ranked first in his year. Cool and refined, he's the idol the whole school looks up to.
The school bully, Ji Linjiang, ranks... dead last. Reckless and unrestrained, he's a headache for the entire school.
Yet these two, worlds apart, have been childhood friends since they were little.
When Ji Linjiang comes last on an exam, Shu Jingyi personally makes him sit down for extra lessons.
When Ji Linjiang is afraid of thunder, Shu Jingyi braves the rain in the middle of the night to keep him company in their dorm room.
When Ji Linjiang gets hurt in a fight, Shu Jingyi applies medicine to his wounds with a cold expression.
Everyone thinks the top student is single-handedly saving the fallen bully. They believe the arrogant boy is ungrateful, dragging his savior off the pedestal and cruelly defiling him, before disappearing without a trace.
Then, when the college entrance exam results are announced, a photograph sets the whole school ablaze.
The picture at the top of the school's honor board is no longer Shu Jingyi's cool, flawless portrait.
It's a candid shot.
Beside the basketball court at sunset, Shu Jingyi turns slightly, his gaze falling on a running figure beyond the frame.
Behind him, Ji Linjiang, dressed in his basketball uniform, leaps high into the air. His bold features blur into a brilliant golden glow against the light.
A faint smile still lingers at the corner of the top student's mouth.
It turns out the god's gaze has never once left his boy.
Later, Qi Heng, the transfer student who had always silently kept Shu Jingyi company, stopped him one evening at dusk.
“I always thought you only had eyes for the very best,” Qi Heng said softly.
Shu Jingyi lifted his eyes and looked toward Ji Linjiang, who was waving at him from a distance, a brilliant smile on his face.
“That's right,” he replied calmly, his gaze softening.
“He's the best person in my life.”
