The protagonist Lin Mo is a non-staff member of a public institution, and his daily job is to write materials and deal with inspections. One day he found a strange clause in a general document "On Strengthening Work Style Construction" issued by the unit: "All personnel must smile in front of the clock-in machine before 8:30 every day. Those who fail to meet the standard will be permanently deleted from the address book."
At first, I thought it was a prank, until Lao Wang from the department next door had his desk vacated the next day because his "smile curve was not up to standard." Everyone seemed to have a collective amnesia - the unit really "deleted" him.
What's even weirder is that Lin Mo discovered that the plot he secretly wrote in the novel the day before would become the new unit rules the next day. He is a submissive non-staff member during the day, and a mysterious author who creates rules at night. He must deal with the "concern" of his boss and the "temptation" of his colleagues, while using novels to rewrite the fate of himself and his colleagues, and uncover the terrifying truth hidden behind the unit.
