In his previous life, Silly Zhu spent thirty years helping the Jia family. Qin Huairu controlled his wages, Banggeng and his sister took over his home, and in the end he was driven out of the courtyard and froze to death under a bridge. As he lay dying, he regretted everything: If I could start over, I’d live for myself for once.
When he opened his eyes again, he was back in 1962.
In this life, Silly Zhu is no longer a sucker anyone can manipulate. Starting with refusing to bring Qin Huairu food, he gradually tears away Yi Zhonghai’s mask as a “saint of morality,” exposes the Jia family’s greed, and makes Banggeng pay for his thefts. He has a Chef God System, but he relies on genuine skill: the factory office director appreciates him, Deputy Director Li puts him to good use, and private cooking jobs keep coming his way as his savings grow.
More importantly, he meets Lin Xue, a doctor at the factory clinic. She’s a top graduate of medical university, and both her parents are doctors at major Beijing hospitals.
This time, he won’t be a fool again.
This is a story of being reborn, turning one’s life around, and protecting what matters, as well as the everyday life of one generation of Beijingers.
It's a very good book, and I feel it gets better the longer I read it!!!
