On the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month in 1982, at midnight, a baby's cry came from Qingshigou Village at the northern foot of the Qinling Mountains. People in the village say that babies born on the night of the Zhongyuan Dynasty have a hard life. No one noticed that there was a pale golden light spot in the pupil of the child's left eye.
Shen Nian'an has been different from others since he was a child - he can see things he shouldn't see. When he was six years old, during the Ghost Festival, he encountered the first "unclean" thing in his life in his yard, and he has been plagued by nightmares ever since. When he was desperate, the blind old woman in the village led a sloppy drunkard to his door. The drunkard's name was Li Qingxu. He had lived in Zhongnan Mountain for decades and was known as "Crazy Li". He was drunk all day long, without a serious word in his mouth, with a broken wine gourd hanging around his waist, and he saw a beautiful woman unable to walk. But it was this person who stretched out his hand and stopped the thing that had been hanging around Shen Nian'an for half a year.
When he was eight years old, Shen Nian'an went to Zhongnan Mountain and became his master to this alcoholic lunatic. The master taught him how to draw talisman, breathe in and out, and read Qi. He also taught him how to distinguish between wandering souls and resentful ghosts. He also taught him a truth - the souls that are lingering in the world have obsessions that cannot be let go. What the Soul Crosser wants to do is not to drive or destroy, but to help them settle their unfinished business and send them on their way.
From the deep mountains of the Qinling Mountains to the prosperous city, from talking about Taoism in Longhu Mountain to the mountains of the Miao border, Shen Nian'an has walked through the souls of the dead with deep obsessions, seen the rivers and lakes where people's hearts are darker than ghosts, and also met people who are willing to stand side by side with him. It wasn't until the day when his master transformed into a Tao and passed away that he finally understood: The soul that his master had risked all his cultivation to save in this life was his own.
