“Your White Queen is waiting for you in the abyss. A thousand lies have been laid down to pave the way.”
Lin Yin, a former criminal profiler, became a global enemy while trying to save his younger sister. His only chance of survival was to complete the “Consciousness Garden.” Its missing core, along with its designer, Lu Shenxue, was imprisoned at the end of the abyss.
Three years ago, she was his employer, his accomplice in a cocoon of lies, and the woman who died for him.
Now, he enters the abyss alone, stealing a spark capable of overturning the world from a graveyard of consciousness. He bears the blame of the world just to fulfill a promise made thirty years too late:
“I’m here to take you home, Lu Shenxue.”
He rescues her, at the cost of her no longer being entirely “human.”
She finds her way home, only to discover that home has become the eye of the storm.
Returning from the abyss, the two face a divided world amid the ruins:
The “absolute harmony” promised by the Doctor, at the cost of erasing the self.
The “racial ascension” pursued by the Professor, at the cost of eliminating the weak.
All they want is to protect a “sanctuary for humanity,” one that allows pain, mistakes, and freedom of choice.
When the secret behind the origin of consciousness is revealed, three paths lie before humanity:
Join a perfect collective? Evolve into new gods?
Or cling to the right to be “human,” even if humanity is full of flaws?
“We stole fire not to become gods of a new world.”
“We did it simply to prove that people of the old world still have the right to choose their future.”
Okay, okay, as long as the future lines are clear, the characters are not collapsed, and the plot is coherent, this book will be okay.
