Synopsis

People know the Song dynasty produced poets, but who knows that its poets could fight, too? The Southern Song literary giants Lu You and Xin Qiji were both iron-willed heroes who could write with the pen to bring peace to the realm and wield a spear to secure it.

Lu You wrote poetry throughout his life, composing nearly ten thousand poems, more than any other poet from ancient times. He was also a legendary warrior hailed as the “Song Dynasty’s Wu Song.” The turmoil of the Jingkang Crisis forged his martial skills from childhood and inspired him to resist the Jin and restore the country. At forty-eight, he went to the front lines at Nanzheng to fight the Jin, reaching the high point of his life: on his way back through the snow, he encountered a fierce tiger, leaped forward with his spear, and pierced its throat with a single thrust, killing it on the spot and earning the awe of the entire army. Even in his eighties, he still donned armor and submitted memorials, insisting on volunteering for a northern expedition. “Iron steeds on icy rivers” was a battlefield obsession etched into his bones.

Xin Qiji, known as the “Dragon of Ci Poetry,” was every bit as valiant. At twenty-two, he led fifty daredevils on a thousand-mile raid, charging alone into a camp of fifty thousand Jin troops and capturing the traitor Zhang Anguo. The battle made him famous across the land and left the Jin terrified at the mention of his name. The Flying Tiger Army he established also became an elite force that the Jin soldiers dreaded.

The two hit it off at first sight and shared the same great ambition to restore their country. They were the Southern Song’s most dazzling all-around talents in letters and arms, yet they were born in the wrong era and could not fulfill their aspirations. These peerless heroes never achieved their lifelong dream of reclaiming the Central Plains. Who will carry on the unfinished work of their country...

Looking for Historical Novels with a Well-Informed Sky Screen

I looked around on Tomato and found that lots of people watch short videos, get worked up about history, and then write novels. Many treat novels and TV dramas as actual history, and even marketing-account content gets taken as fact. Please, I want authors with a little more cultural knowledge. No more romanticizing our ancestors; portray the Yuan and Qing objectively.

Historical Novels Based on Official History

Historical novels based on official history, not unofficial accounts. Any dynasty is fine, but it absolutely has to be official history! Official history! Please! Historical fiction is really useful to me.

Books That Reflect Real History

I'm looking for books similar to "Understanding the Turbulent Three Kingdoms Through a Single Set of Books (7 Volumes)". I want history books that reflect real history without too much artistic embellishment. Excessive distortions of the facts rob reading of its meaning and distort one's values.

Looking for Superbly Written Historical Novels!

I've read The Chief Ministers, A Scholar of Superior Character, A First-Rank Official, A Generation's Military Advisor, The Son-in-Law, The Beauty of the Rivers and Mountains, The Unification of the Mountains and Rivers, I Picked Up Qin Shi Huang, The End of Song, New Song, and Joy of Life. Are there any similar novels with a highly intelligent protagonist who plans everything in advance?
