Mi Nanfei, a small-town problem solver, firmly believes that scores are medals that change destiny. From the tears and vows on the eve of the college entrance examination, to the young love and friendship in college; from the confusion in the Shanghai pharmaceutical factory after failing the postgraduate entrance examination, to the desperate struggle for ideals to be admitted as a civil servant in the national ministries and commissions. His life trajectory was completely changed by a survey in Gansu. There, he met Su Yu, who graduated from Beijing Normal University and had taught in remote mountains for four years, and saw the most real dilemma of rural education. From policy research at the Ministry of Education, to serving as deputy county magistrate at the grassroots level, and then to becoming the county magistrate in charge of government, Mi Nanfei devoted his blood to building roads, developing industries, and attracting talents, trying to find a way for the people to get rich. However, the success of his career was intertwined with the jealousy of his colleagues, the constraints of his predecessor, and the unpredictability of the human heart, making him trapped in a complicated personnel whirlpool. When ideals collide with reality, when passion meets ice, this young man who once only believed in scores, after the ups and downs of officialdom and inner struggles, finally made an astonishing decision - to resign from public office, return to Gansu with his wife Su Yu, and build a Hope Primary School on the Loess Plateau.
