This work recounts the life of Zhang Fei, one of the Five Tiger Generals of the Three Kingdoms era: from a butcher in Zhuo Commandery to his awe-inspiring display of might at Changban Slope in Dangyang, and finally to his tragic end at the hands of Fan Qiang and Zhang Da. Later generations built temples in his honor, preserving his name through the ages. Drawing on works such as Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Records of the Three Kingdoms, and Book of the Later Han, this story seeks to present Zhang Yide as a more historically grounded, more mighty and formidable, and more fully realized tiger general, for readers to enjoy.
