When the universe first began, he condensed from the void and was born as a star core: Jialuo, the Primordial One, the supreme being of the Six Realms. He lived longer than the stars, cold and serene as frost, untouched by joy or sorrow, keeping watch over Starpattern Flower Valley and never concerning himself with the world.
Until one day, at the edge of the Star Abyss, he found a dying gaze.
Lan, one of a pair of twins, was both god and demon. Two souls crowded into one body, tearing at each other, yet each fought to keep the other alive. Jialuo saved him, gave him a name, taught him cultivation techniques, and gave him a flower-covered valley. Then he left him to his own devices.
For three thousand years, they gazed at each other across a sea of flowers. For three thousand years, Jialuo spoke only three sentences to him.
Lan thought Jialuo was simply his home.
But he didn't know that throughout those three thousand years, Jialuo had been using his own divine bones to suppress the unstable twin souls inside him, sacrificing himself day after day, fading away day after day.
In one mortal lifetime, they loved each other as ordinary people, from their youth until their hair turned white.
But a god's fall is never changed by a beautiful mortal dream.
The demon of the void broke free from its seal. Jialuo drew out his last divine bone and shielded Lan inside a barrier. The hand that pierced his chest, the eyes that watched him until death, and those final words:
"Take my divine bone. Live on in my place."
Lan survived, carrying Jialuo's bones, Jialuo's blood, and the last trace of stardust Jialuo had left in the world.
He kept watch over Starpattern Flower Valley for a thousand years. Every day, he watered the flowers with his blood and nourished the trees with his tears. He made himself into Jialuo's likeness: untouched by joy or sorrow, cold and serene as frost.
