Starlight and Protection

He spent ten years making her a movie queen.

She spent ten years learning not to love him.

They met again at the celebratory banquet. He walked over with a glass in hand and smiled casually.

"Congratulations, Queen Lin."

"Long time no see, Young Master Gu."

So proper. So restrained. So much like two strangers.

No one knew that the night the whole internet turned against her, he bought twenty-one marketing accounts and made all the insults vanish overnight.

When her father owed twenty million in gambling debts, he transferred the money anonymously, with just two words in the message: Keep going.

When she broke her shoulder while filming and lay in the hospital, he had fifty thousand sent to her under the name "Fan."

He never said a word.

She never knew.

Later, he finally got "engaged."

She sent him three words: Congratulations to you.

He replied instantly: Thank you.

At three in the morning, a bouquet of white roses sat outside her door.

There was no card.

She held the flowers for a long time before tears finally streamed down her face.

She didn't know that he had arranged for them to be delivered from the restroom at his engagement banquet.

She knew even less that the engagement was fake.

But what difference would it make if she knew?

They had already missed the ten years when they should have loved each other most.

This is a story about devotion.

One person spends a lifetime protecting another, but that person will never know.

Devotion itself is the ending.
