Lin Wan transmigrates into an early-era tragic romance novel as a doomed side character. The first thing she does is track down the future villain who's destined to kill her.
She drops to her knees with a thud and says with heartfelt sincerity, “Your Highness! I wish to become sworn siblings with you. From now on, you'll be my own big brother, even though we have different parents!”
She only wanted an immunity-from-death pass, but the villain raises an eyebrow and agrees.
And so, all of the capital witnesses a bizarre spectacle:
The Prince of Jing'an, who should be wielding power over the court and acting ruthless, accompanies his “sworn sister” around the Western Market, haggling over prices;
he defends his “sworn sister” at a poetry gathering and makes a talented young woman cry;
he even ties on an apron and helps peel shrimp at the hotpot restaurant she opened.
The plot goes completely off the rails. While the male lead is making a heartfelt confession, Lin Wan is busy calculating her share of the profits. While the female lead tearfully accuses someone, Lin Wan is teaching the villain to play Sichuan mahjong.
She throws an arm around the villain's shoulder, drunk and slurring: “Big Brother, stick with me and you'll always have meat to eat!”
The villain wipes the sauce from the corner of her mouth with a smile, his gaze growing more intense. “Mm. There will be plenty of ‘meat’ to eat.”
Then, on the day of the male lead's wedding, her villainous big brother surrounds the wedding hall with troops.
As everyone looks on in terror, he calmly produces a bridal gown he'd prepared long ago and drapes it over Lin Wan.
“I'm tired of being your brother.” He bends down and whispers in her ear, “Now I want to marry you.”
Lin Wan looks at the phoenix coronet and bridal robes she's wearing, then at the original novel's hero and heroine, tied up like dumplings at her feet. Even the melon in her hand doesn't taste sweet anymore.
Big Brother, isn't this sibling affection getting a little too twisted?
