Lu Fen, a young man from a border-town funeral home, was born with blocked meridians and a life-lamp that would not burn. He survived by collecting corpses and stitching bones for the dead.
After an accident, he swallowed a crimson fruit of fate hidden inside the belly of an immortal corpse. From then on, he could see a thread above every living being, stretching all the way to the Ninth Heaven.
At last, he understood:
So-called cultivation is nothing but refining people into more valuable fates.
So-called ascension is nothing but sending the souls of all living beings to the Celestial Court to be used as lamp oil.
And so-called divine compassion is nothing but wearing a golden body while eating with better manners.
From burning the Ascension Platform to smashing the millstone of reincarnation;
from the immortal sects hunting him to the heavens turning against him;
when everyone says he is wrong and all three realms force him to bow his head, Lu Fen raises his blade and challenges Heaven:
If this world allows only gods to stand above all others while humans grovel forever, then I’d rather be rid of Heaven.
This is the story of a boy who crawls out of a heap of corpses in the mortal world and ultimately burns Heaven to ashes.
