Reborn in 2009: Pay Up or Get Lost

Summer, 2009.

The afternoon sun blazed over the north.

Chen Feng opened his eyes.

Shrill cursing mixed with the rattling noise of an old electric fan as it spun nearby.

“Chen Dahai, quit dragging your feet.”

“You’re signing those papers today, no matter what.”

“Hongxing Farm Machinery Factory owes the town credit union 600,000 yuan, and it owes me 300,000 in material costs.”

“If you don’t put up the factory buildings as collateral today, I’ll haul off those few junk machine tools of yours and sell them for scrap.”

Chen Feng shook his head, and his vision slowly came into focus.
