Zhou Yuan, a young man from the bottom rung of rural society, heads straight for the bustling, complicated city of Cangcheng with the 800 yuan he got from selling his cow.
After seeking out his cousin, he starts out keeping watch at a bar. With his simple stubbornness and hard fists, he fights his way through the undercurrents of the underworld.
Sister Lin, who has always stayed by his side; the alluring owner of a nightclub; and a female doctor who is cold on the outside but warm within: women of all kinds become intertwined with his life. He uses humor to defuse crises and loyalty to establish himself. From a country bumpkin everyone looks down on, he gradually grows into a hidden tycoon who can shape the course of Cangcheng.
This is a legend of an underdog’s rise, and a tale of the underworld woven from desire, loyalty, and tenderness.
