Journey to the West: The Karma Pawnshop

I run a pawnshop at the foot of Flower-Fruit Mountain.

One day, Sun Wukong came in to pawn his Golden Cudgel. I ran the numbers on my abacus and discovered he owed more than thirty million...

The Cudgel’s final installment was unpaid, his Journey to the West guarantee debt had been compounding with interest, and the title “Great Sage Equal to Heaven” had been collateralized thirty-seven times.

Guanyin was dodging creditors, the Jade Emperor was renting an apartment, and a debt note from Jin Chanzi dating back seventy thousand years suddenly surfaced.

Other people write Journey to the West stories about fighting monsters. I write them about balancing the books.

The novel is titled Journey to the West: The Cause-and-Effect Pawnshop. Come solve the mystery in the comments!
