Synopsis
On their wedding day, Fu Jingnian blanks for a moment in front of the priest.
No one notices. Only Shen Nian sees.
She's an invisible nobody brought in as a substitute bride. He's a risk officer who never gets involved in romance. Their wedding is a farce, their two-year contract spells out every clause, and they agree to get what they want and stay out of each other's way.
Fu Jingnian says he'll let her go once she can stand on her own two feet.
But he forgets to account for one thing: his own heart.
Shen Nian gradually discovers that this man, who buttons his shirts all the way to the collar, posts anonymous pleas for advice late at night: “How do I get along with a wife ten years younger than me?” He quietly slips her favorite comics onto her bookshelf, and stocks the car with warm milk and snacks when she goes on business trips.
She thinks it's all part of their agreement. That is, until she gets caught up in a twenty-five-year-old murder case and discovers her past is far more complicated than she imagined: the child hiding behind the church pillars, the buried truths, the secrets no one can tell.
Fu Jingnian takes her hand. “You taught me that the essence of risk isn't avoidance, but foresight.”
“This time, I'm betting my whole life.”
This is a story about two “outsiders.” They grow from each other's most barren places, struggle between lies and truth, and teeter on the boundary between hatred and love. Later, they have a daughter and name her Niannian.
A name that means never forgetting.
[A chief risk officer who can't calculate the risks of love × a woman who grows from an invisible nobody into a shining light. Marriage first, love later + mysterious past + two strong leads growing together.]
