In the summer of 2018, 24-year-old Shi Fengnian walked into the hospital alone and waited for a verdict: a malignant brain stem tumor that could last no longer than six months. She didn't cry, she even breathed a sigh of relief.
This "optimistic and cheerful" girl hides too many secrets: childhood bullying, adolescent debt, accumulated depression, and the lie she weaves about herself. She blamed her father's gambling debts and mother's hard work on herself.
When sorting out her belongings, she accidentally discovered an insurance policy she had bought in her early years. The beneficiary was her mother Deng Lan, and the compensation was five million. She put it away calmly, like a belated apology.
For the next six months, summer in small southern towns was extremely long. Her mother's fiery temper, her father's glib tongue, her sister-in-law's nagging, her two nephews' quarrels, the daily routines of relatives and neighbors - amid all this, she gradually tore down the walls she had built.
She still suffered the pain alone, but she also began to allow herself to be loved, and in her last days, she could be her daughter, sister, and aunt.
In the winter of 2018, there was a second heavy snowfall. Shi Fengnian sat by the window and told his mother that he wanted to eat leek dumplings. The mother turned around and went to the kitchen. She looked at the back of the man who had been busy for half his life and said softly: "Mom, let you be my daughter in the next life."
Heavy snow fell on a small southern town. As a puppy, it chirped on the empty slippers and refused to leave again.
This is a story about farewell and reconciliation. There is no love and miracles, only those "I'm sorry" that are too late to say, and the hot dumplings that are too late to eat.
Reader comments
Not bad, quite niche
It's quite good. I saw it accidentally and felt that the story was quite novel. But the story feels a bit dragging, but the family line seems to be well written, so you can check it out. There were a few chapters that made me quite sad, and I felt empty. If you want to read it, you can just make do with it. It depends on what you like. I feel like you can still watch the show.
A niche family novel, a very light novel. The writing is not very attractive, but the story is quite good. I will read it later and review it later.
