From the late Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period to the Southern Song Dynasty, Jianghu disputes, border conflicts and court intrigues were intertwined and changing. Taking the historical figure Zhao Deying (the fifth son of Zhao Kuangyin in historical records) as the protagonist, the legend between him and Chai Zongxi, the daughter of Chai Rong, runs throughout. The two lived among the people due to the war when they were young, and fell in love with each other; later they were involved in the power game in the court, and experienced power struggles; finally, they forged their friendship in the flames of the border, and wrote an epic chapter of children in troubled times.
