The Door Across the Hall

The thing Xia Yining regretted most in her life was listening to her best friend’s nonsense and knocking on the door across the hall.

The moment it opened, he froze.

The man wore nothing but a bath towel. Water dripped from his hair and beaded across his abs, and his gaze was colder than the winter night breeze.

“What is it?”

Xia Yining held up the cake in his hands, tongue-tied. “C-could I borrow some sugar?”

Later, they became neighbors.

Later still, when his best friend asked about the handsome, cold-faced guy, Xia Yining looked at the figure washing dishes in the kitchen and fell silent for three seconds.

“He seems to… have moved in for good.”
