World One: Deep Blue Hotel
The fourth rule on the “Guest Information” sheet on the bedside table has been crossed out. The previous guest carved into it: “Don’t press the red button.” But you did. Now the person in the mirror is three seconds behind you.
World Two: The Midnight Last Train
The last train has only seven carriages. But you counted eight. The doors close, and someone is standing on the platform outside the window, wearing exactly the same clothes as you.
World Three: Sunshine Kindergarten
There’s a fourth person in your daughter’s drawing, a black figure standing behind her. “Who is he?” Your daughter smiles. “He lives under my bed.”
World Four: The Hexi Village Wedding Banquet
As the bride serves tea, three leaves stand upright in the cup. The red paper says: Leave at once. Don’t look back. But your legs have already stopped moving.
Many more worlds await your intrusion.
You can read just one, or finish them all in one sitting.
But don’t read at night.
Don’t read alone.
Don’t read while looking in a mirror.
Because you’ll never know:
Is the you in the mirror also reading this book?
