A hand in the dark was pushing all of this forward, as if to choose the strongest person to carry on civilization. It was like a gladiatorial arena: the strong preyed on the weak, and no one who survived was a good person. Good people couldn't make it.
Survival, simply staying alive, was the only goal. Only by surviving could there be hope!
