In 1960, sixteen-year-old Zhou Shuyue, a hardworking farm girl from Zhoujia Village nicknamed Tomato Girl, hears a voice in her mind just when she needs help most: [Tomato Farming Assistant System activated! Grow tomatoes, eat tomatoes, work hard to build a better life!]
At first, the villagers don't understand. They wonder why the girl is always thinking about growing “little red fruits.”
Then the tomatoes she grows become so big and red that their branches bend under the weight.
Then the tomato sauce and dried tomatoes she tries making taste so good that even the village elders praise them.
Then the goods made by the small group she forms with the village girls catch the attention of the commune's purchasing station, earning the production team much-needed farm tools...
As Zhou Shuyue eats the tomatoes she grew herself and watches life in the village slowly improve, warmth fills her heart. Who says tomatoes are just a little snack? She'll use these bright red fruits to bring something truly sweet to everyone's lives.
A good book with a novel subject matter. I have read too many books about knowingly going to the countryside and pretending to be cool! Suddenly seeing this different country girl's awakening system is quite refreshing.
