Apocalypse + rebirth + System + adorable pets + everyone dotes on her + lighthearted. Li Zhan has died once.
She died at the hands of her best friend, in a horde of zombies.
Reborn, she swears she'll do only three things in this life:
Protect her parents, take good care of her pets, and stay away from fake sweethearts.
But she never expected that the little husky who died protecting her from zombies in her previous life would awaken in this one.
It starts growing bigger. It starts talking. Then it gazes at her with its bright blue eyes and says in a babyish voice, “I'll protect you.”
Later, she rescues a big orange cat.
The cat guards a warehouse packed with supplies, rubbing its fluffy head against her palm. “You take care of my daughter, and I'll keep you safe.”
Later still, she adds a little orange kitten to the family.
A tiny bundle who loves nothing more than curling up in the hollow of her neck and purring, softly calling, “Mama, Mama.”
Li Zhan thinks these are the best days she could hope for in the apocalypse.
Until one night, her dog corners her against the wall. The blue light in its eyes turns gold, and its voice drops low:
“Li Zhan, I've waited for this day for two lifetimes.”
Li Zhan freezes.
She suddenly remembers that dog from her previous life, standing in front of her, covered in blood, and the look it gave her as it turned back.
It turns out that look held so many things she never knew.
