Don't Panic, Abstinent Officer: Your Sweet Wife Only Wants Money and Seafood

For thirty years, a sinister tale has haunted a fishing village on the East China Sea: no one who moves into the haunted house at the eastern end of the village survives more than three days.

Fishermen who venture near the haunted reefs either go mad or drown. The midnight sobbing never stops.

Then the Su family's ill-treated girl, who'd been sold to a cripple, walked out with nothing but a pig-killing knife, kicked open the haunted house's door, and declared:

"Starting tonight, this is my home."

The whole village waited to collect her body.

The next morning, she came back from the reef zone full of life.

In her hands were five palm-sized green crabs and a three-pound eel.

On the third day, she dislocated the jaw of the thing that came to "haunt" the place in the middle of the night, using nothing but her bare hands.

The villagers were terrified: the sea god had possessed the Su family's girl!

The demobilized officer from the capital, who'd been sent down to the neighboring village, frowned.

He'd seen with his own eyes that the so-called "ghost" was a living man weighing a hundred and eighty pounds.

And the slight young woman had pinned him to the reef with more precision and ease than any special forces soldier he'd ever led.

"Who are you, really?"

Without looking back, Su Qing broke open a golden-brown crab. Its delicious roe ran over her hand.

"Someone who just wants to eat seafood in peace."

Unfortunately, no one would leave her in peace.

Smugglers, human traffickers, sea-monster legends, ghost ships, waterspouts...

One strange incident after another came crashing her way.

Someone asked: How could a seventeen-year-old girl know Chinese medicine, martial arts, and feng shui, and even crush a green crab's shell with one hand?

Su Qing smiled faintly.

She'd simply been alive for a long time. A thousand two hundred years, to be exact.
