The boy was about sixteen or seventeen years old. He was wearing a long gown of coarse cloth that had been washed white and even yellowed. The cuffs and hem of the gown were frayed with raw edges. There was also an irregular patch on his shoulder. The color of the patch was very different from the gown itself, making it look particularly abrupt. He has a thin figure, but his back is straight, like a green pine growing stubbornly in the cold wind, never bowing to fate.
