Disaster strikes. Waves of the undead engulf cities, the sky and sea fall one after another, and the land becomes humanity’s last refuge.
Gu Chenzhou is nothing more than an ordinary low-ranking survivor in an outer-ring settlement. No talent, no connections, and no one who would even notice him. To stay alive, he joins a group heading into the old city of Gray Ridge to scavenge for food. During their escape, a zombie claws him. Like everyone else, he should have come down with a high fever, lost control, turned into a zombie, and rotted away in a shelter.
But he doesn’t die.
The White Tower Society takes him for a Gray-grade test subject, hoping to find a path to “controlled evolution” through him. No one believes a low-priority specimen can survive, but Gu Chenzhou climbs right back off the operating table.
From that day on, he wants more than just to survive.
He begins hunting zombie species, devouring their echoes, and climbing his way up through hordes of the undead and rivers of human blood. He also begins to see that zombies aren’t necessarily the only monsters in this world.
When the White Tower Society tries to define the future through experimentation, and the ultimate zombie species seeks to replace humanity through assimilation, Gu Chenzhou will stand at the very edge of the world.
His goal isn’t to turn the world back into what it was.
It’s to put an end to this out-of-control era.
