Synopsis

A modern office drone trapped in the 996 grind wakes up inside a game with twelve elderly and infirm refugees, fleeing to the frontier. Wolves, bandits, and blizzards take turns making their lives miserable. If he can’t go back, he’ll use modern knowledge to turn this wilderness into an impregnable fortress!

In the final second before dying from overwork, Liu Feng is still stockpiling supplies in Farthest Frontier.

When he opens his eyes again, he’s the “lord” of thirteen refugees: a broken-down cart, an empty food supply, and a pregnant woman in difficult labor, bleeding across the wilderness. Before he can even learn everyone’s faces, his “reckless commands” split the group in two. The next day, five bodies wash back from a flash flood.

The life of a modern office drone matters too. Liu Feng puts the game’s survival rules to use: scouting, hunting, identifying poison, and forecasting the weather. Soon, the survivors are on their knees calling him “Chief.”

Eight people die crossing Despair Ridge before they finally reach a river valley full of hills and water. Liu Feng drives in the first wooden stake. “Remember, this is our home.”

From then on:

Wolves attack at night? Cut off their heads and mount them along the fence.

Bandits come to plunder? Lure them into town, shut the gates, and beat them at their own game.

The authorities try to extort him? A warehouse full of iron goods makes a fine bargaining chip.

Five years later, the frontier city’s population tops ten thousand, and merchant caravans stream through its gates. Liu Feng stands at the lord’s manor, gazing out at the lights of countless homes, while his five wives hold their seven children and call him in for dinner.

He remembers a line he came across in his previous life:

“In the game, you stockpile supplies. Here, you stockpile lives.”

Lord-Building Stories With a Slow Growth Arc, No Unique Troop Type from the Start

Not the kind where it's all “from the start, the only hidden unit” and “SSS-rank talent,” then the protagonist is ridiculously powerful from the start with everyone losing their intelligence. I'd like some clever mind games instead.
