Zhang Tianheng, a modern Taoist priest from the Age of Declining Dharma, has studied the Taoist canon extensively but cannot cultivate. Then, in a dream, he transmigrates to the Southern Song Dynasty and becomes an abandoned disciple from a branch of Mount Longhu.
Awakening peerless spiritual roots and heaven-defying comprehension, he has no magical powers, yet can complete the fragmentary Taoist scriptures and summon purple clouds stretching three thousand li from the east. The Celestial Master of the age takes him as a personal disciple and gives him the name Shouzhen. More astonishingly, he discovers that "spreading the Dao is cultivation": each person he teaches strengthens the world's source by a fraction. Spiritual qi revival begins at Mount Longhu, and the world starts to ascend.
From then on, he embarks on the path of spreading the Dao. He debates Qiu Chuji and breaks through to the Golden Core realm, guides Li Mochou to abandon her cultivation, takes Yang Guo as his disciple and teaches him the spirit of chivalry, and vows eternal love with Xiaolongnu, only for them to be torn apart by life and death. When a million Mongol troops besiege Xiangyang, he spends a century of his lifespan to set up the Celestial Star Formation, protecting the people as the city teeters on the brink of falling.
Love twists and turns, while duty weighs a thousand catties. To save the people, he gives up his personal love. To protect the Dao's legacy, he burns through his heart and soul. After three world ascensions, nine tribulations of heavenly thunder, and ten thousand years of lonely guardianship, he rises step by step from an abandoned disciple to become the Dao of this world.
This is a story about spreading the Dao, protection, and love. When Zhang Tianheng turns white-haired overnight at the bottom of the Valley of Passion, when he is utterly spent atop the walls of Xiangyang, and when, ten thousand years later, he reunites with old friends amid chaos,
he asks himself: Was it worth it?
Seeing the one he loves live forever, seeing the Dao's legacy endure, seeing all beings ascend because of him,
he smiles faintly. It was.
Many places are written inexplicably Later I looked at the writing and it was confusing, but it was somewhat interesting.
The writing is very real, and a lot of it is actually about the understanding of people and things.
