Immortals Dwell in the White Mountains and Black Waters

Lin Yuanshan was born into a family of guardian spirits in Northeast China. He was an ordinary e-commerce operator in the city until his master’s mysterious disappearance forced him into the occult world of serving the immortals. His family’s ancestral Baishan altar awakened his spiritual bond, and the five immortals, Fox, Weasel, Hedgehog, Snake, and Rat, took their places. Binding spirits, reading incense, investigating cases, breaking curses, hunting ghosts, and driving out evil: one strange and deadly case after another unfolds in the towns and countryside of Northeast China.

Haunted homes, vengeful infant spirits, evil spirit altars harming people, and wronged ghosts seeking revenge: with the help of the immortals and his keen understanding of human nature, Lin Yuanshan repeatedly dispels deadly threats, even as he becomes entangled in karmic ties. While battling the wicked practitioners who exploit and kill for money, he also investigates his master’s disappearance and the century-old secrets of the Baishan altar, holding fast to his principles amid the warmth and coldness of human affairs and the eerie ways of the spirit world.

From being dragged into the fray to willingly taking responsibility, Lin Yuanshan grows through the struggle between immortals and mortals, rules and obsession, salvation and backlash. In the name of the Baishan altar, he protects the peace of the people around him, ultimately uncovering the ultimate truth behind the immortal tradition and forging a righteous path of serving the spirits, one that saves both others and himself.
