Dreaming of the Warring States: My Benevolent Rule, Learned from Mencius, Sweeps the Six Kingdoms

Zhang Ersan, a history and archaeology professor from the twenty-first century, unexpectedly transmigrates to the Warring States period and becomes the seventeen-year-old second son of a Wei state official, Chen Lianghe. The original owner was devoted to Confucianism, and on the very day he transmigrates, Zhang Ersan becomes a disciple of the great scholar Mencius, earning a place as his most valued and final student. By chance, he saves a beautiful woman and meets Wang Zhi, a young woman descended from the nobility of the Teng state. The two are bound together by fate.

Others who transmigrate either become kings or vie for power through political schemes. He chooses instead to follow Mencius on his travels through a turbulent age, confronting the fires of war with the way of benevolent governance. What sparks will fly when modern historical and archaeological knowledge meets Confucian ideals of kingship in the war-torn Warring States period? How will Wang Zhi stand by him through the chaos, and how will they face each other when she learns the secret of Chen Lianghe’s transmigration? And in a world far behind his own, how will he, a scientist in his former life, use the science and technology he knows to distinguish himself and astonish the feudal lords?

He witnesses the Hundred Schools of Thought contend and puts the ideal of benevolent governance into practice. Though only a humble Confucian scholar, he vows to carve out a bloodless path to peace for all under heaven amid the chaos. In this life, he will not only follow the Master, but make the way of benevolence truly shine across the land.
