In the fourth year of Jian'an, in the chancellor's courtyard, Cao Cao and Liu Bei sat across from each other over warmed wine and green plums, discussing the realm and probing one another at every turn. Su Zhe had been dragged along to round out the gathering. He sat off to the side, happily stuffing himself with the fruit and pastries on the table. His motto: “If I eat fast enough, trouble won't find me.”

Suddenly, dark clouds gathered overhead, and thunder rumbled in the distance.

Slightly drunk, Cao Cao pointed grandly at Liu Bei, then abruptly turned and fixed his gaze on Su Zhe, whose mouth was full of pastry.

“Of the heroes under heaven today, only Your Lordship, I, and Mr. Su are worthy of the title!”

“Clatter!”

Liu Bei's hand shook, and his chopsticks fell to the ground. He stared at the young man, who usually dozed through meetings, with shock and wariness.

Su Zhe nearly choked. The bronze wine cup in his hand trembled three times as he screamed inwardly:

“Come on, Boss Cao, get a grip! You two legendary big shots are showing off and testing each other. Why drag a wage slave like me into it?!”

“I don't even have a skill to save my life! You're putting me on the grill!”

Years later…

Zhuge Liang's feather fan fell from his hand as he looked up at the sky and sighed. “That scoundrel Su Zhe fights dirty. I haven't even put my plan into action, and he already knows which leg I'll move next?!”

Zhou Yu beat his chest in despair. “Why was there a Yu before Zhe!”

Cao Cao beat his chest in despair too. “The move I regret most in my life was ruining Su Zhe's cushy job that day!”

After the Battle of Red Cliffs, Cao Cao lamented:

“If Su Zhe had been here, I would never have ended up in this predicament.”
