Zhao Le has his life all planned out: graduate, get a job at a big tech company, become an office drone, and get laid off at thirty-five.
Then his parents die in a car accident, forcing him to return to his hometown and inherit a rundown inn hidden away in the mountains.
On opening day, two men in imperial robes start fighting at the entrance.
“Li Shimin! You killed your brother and forced your father to abdicate, and you still have the nerve to stay here?”
“Zhu Yuanzhang! You killed so many meritorious officials that no one comes to court anymore!”
Zhao Le calls the police. When they arrive, they tell him, “Sir, making a false report can get you detained.”
He searches on his phone: Li Shimin (598–649), dead for over a thousand years.
Zhao Le drops to his knees on the spot.
And things get even more overwhelming after that...
Ying Zheng asks him every day whether he has an elixir of immortality;
Liu Bang and Zhu Yuanzhang compete over who came from the humblest background, while Liu Xiu stands by, humblebragging, “I got by on looks and luck”;
Qianlong wants to write “I was here” on the wall and gets chased by everyone.
Zhao Le plans to lie flat and slack off, until he discovers that these big shots pay in real cash.
Fine. As long as the money's good, I don't care what dynasty you're from.
Then one day, Zhu Yuanzhang asks him, “Innkeeper, how exactly did the Ming Dynasty fall?”
Zhao Le is silent for thirty seconds, then opens Baidu Baike.
That night, Old Zhu cries.
And Zhao Le suddenly realizes: he hasn't opened an inn, but a counseling center for history's biggest legends.
After listening to 3 chapters, the descriptions of the characters are contradictory. Li Shimin calls himself "We are in the Qing Dynasty. Liu Bang has been here and I don't know the price. The time of historical figures is confusing. There are people from any timeline. The monarchs and ministers are not on the same line. In three chapters, people from the Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Ming (Qing) dynasties are all here."
Yongzheng called Qianlong Emperor Ama?
This is fucking wrong, right? Isn't Qianlong the son of Yongzheng? Why did Yongzheng call Qianlong daddy? And isn't Zhu Yuanzhang on the first floor? Shouldn't you come over and beat Zhu Di as soon as you hear his name?
