Chu Tianyang, a herb-gathering boy from the miasma-filled forests of the Eastern Wasteland, is ambushed one day and falls from Soulbreak Cliff. What should have been certain death turns around when a warm current in his chest miraculously saves him. He even manages to snatch a talking thousand-year-old blood ginseng and discovers the secret that he is an ancient living pill furnace.
His good-for-nothing cultivation, stuck at the third level of Qi Refining, suddenly surges. A mysterious presence sleeping in his dantian whispers a warning: pursuers from the Profound Nether Sect are closing in, the sword light of the Azure Cloud Sect sweeps over the cliff, and the strange resonance of an immortal soul turns even his breath into a weapon.
From a mud-covered boy fighting to survive his fall to a fated figure stirring up the winds and clouds of the Nine Provinces, he cracks the sect's trials with dry jokes, passes the sword fanatic's test with candied hawthorns, searches the black market for a pill-furnace map, and breaks through a life-or-death trap in the yellow sands. With the spiritual leyline on the brink of drying up, he bears an immortal soul in a mortal body and defies fate on the path to immortality.
With a chatty, sarcastic thousand-year-old blood ginseng on one side and the forces of good and evil closing in on the other, Chu Tianyang's path to immortality officially begins amid the rotting leaves at the bottom of Soulbreak Cliff!
