The Eye of Another World: The Saintess I Deceived Saved My Life

(A new author finding their feet. Thanks for your support, and for leaving comments!)

(The author wants to write something niche but meaningful, so this isn't a power fantasy. It's a story about ordinary people.)

After transmigrating to a Western fantasy continent ruled by the church, I have no System to help me and no talent that defies the heavens. Instead, I'm a heterochromatic-eyed sacrifice the Church of Holy Light has its sights on.

To earn enough to stay alive, I take a job from the black market: find the apprentice saintess who fled the church. My plan is to spin a perfect lie, win her trust, hand her over to the church for a huge reward, and finally escape my precarious life.

But beside a filthy drainage ditch in the slums, I find her. She's covered in wounds and trembling, yet her eyes are pure and clear. Without the slightest guard, she asks me, “Are you here to help me?”

In the end, I lie to her. I claim I'm a protector sent by someone she once knew, and take her with me as we evade the tribunal's bloody pursuit. I forge identities with deception and create illusions with minor spells, maneuvering carefully through one desperate situation after another.

This isn't a path to conquest like that of an overpowered hero. It's a weak person's struggle against desperate odds, a sincere heart wrapped in lies, and the most moving mutual redemption in a dark otherworld.

I survived by lying for ten years. In the end, the saintess I deceived redeemed my entire life.
