Lin Qi's Money

The day Lin Qi got a call saying his father was critically ill, he was lying on a beach in Sanya.

When he rushed back to the hospital, he discovered the old man had been faking it. His real goal was to give Lin Qi fifty million and make him spend it all within a year.

If he failed to spend it all, he would come back and inherit a family fortune worth tens of billions.

Lin Qi smiled. He knew exactly what to do: pick sunset industries, factories on the verge of closing, and art films nobody watched. He would lose money however he could.

The results:

· He bought a towel factory, and the government granted it a subsidy of thirty million the very next day.

· He opened a “please leave” supermarket that became a refuge for lonely young people.

· He invested in a murder-mystery restaurant, and the whole city was booked out for three months.

Lin Qi lay in his office and wailed, “I just want to be a good-for-nothing wastrel. Why is it so hard?”

Then one day, he met a girl who came to the supermarket every day to stare into space. She stood in front of a shelf, looking at a book that didn’t bear her name.

Suddenly, he realized that some things mattered more than losing money.
