In 2079, there is a ruined area called "No Man's Land" in Xinhai City. People here will suffer from a strange disease - "echo syndrome": the memory of the deceased before death will penetrate into the brains of the living like a ghost, making people unable to tell who they are.
Shen Shen is an officially certified memory scavenger, specializing in helping people peel off memory fragments that do not belong to them. He is calm and restrained, like a machine without emotion, because he hides a childhood memory that has been forcibly sealed. One day, he received an anonymous commission: to go to the no-man's land to find a man named Lu Xun - a wanted criminal who was swallowed up by the memories of 73 dead people. He was being tortured by the memory to the point of collapse, but he still refused to accept the elimination.
When silence entered the depths of Lu Xun's consciousness, he saw 73 ways of death: explosion, suffocation, despair, and sacrifice. One of the memories comes from the last perspective of a seven-year-old boy - it was himself. It turns out that during the urban disaster that was covered up by the authorities many years ago, the young Shen Ji "entrusted" his memory to Lu Xun who was present at the time. The two were never strangers, but the only survivors in each other's memories.
On one side is the scavenger who is desperately trying to retrieve the past, and on the other is the fugitive who is desperately trying to keep the memories of others. They evaded pursuit and pieced together the truth in the ruins of no-man's land, and finally discovered: some memories must be carried, even if it makes you miserable; and some people are worthy of your remaining memories in exchange for their lives.
This is an escape about memory, redemption and survivors.
