Set between 1925 and 1949, it tells the story of three brothers and sisters of the Yang family who parted ways due to their beliefs. The elder brother Yang Liren joined the Kuomintang, the younger brother Yang Liqing joined the Communist Party, and the elder sister Yang Lihua was involved in the process. The two brothers experienced the confrontation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, the war of resistance against Japan and the smoke of the civil war. They made difficult choices between faith and family ties, and faced off many times. During this period, Li Qing had constant disputes with his mentor Qu En's family. After Qu En's death, his son was adopted by Li Hua. Father Yang Tinghe longed for family reunion but failed to do so. In the end, the brothers and sisters were separated on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The whole play shows the intertwining of personal destiny and the general trend of family and country, interpreting the choice of faith and the tearing of family ties in the torrent of history.
