The Five Ghosts Subdue Demons: A Chronicle of Three Hundred Years of Gratitude and Loyalty

The story's central theme: The Five Ghosts taunt Zhong Kui, and Zhong Kui subdues them. Their three-hundred-year-long service links the Tang and Song dynasties, bringing together two great legends: Zhong Kui's slaying of demons and the White Snake's repayment of a debt of gratitude. Through the eyes of ordinary people, the story explores the cycle of loyalty and righteousness, and raises profound questions about order and chaos, gratitude and duty, personal choice and fate.
