Born in Gu Family Hollow in the Yanshan Mountains, Gu Shan has a golden mark on his left hand. He is diagnosed as “sealed by the Yellow Immortal,” burdened with seven soul-locking tribulations and surrounded by evil spirits. On the night he turns six, a vengeful water ghost comes to claim his life. The slumbering Lord Yellow Immortal awakens for the first time, shatters the ghost with a single claw, and binds his fate to Gu Shan’s.
From then on, Gu Shan, though mortal, bears the power of the Yellow Immortal and embarks on a path to suppress evil. He enters Blackstone Village to break a ghostly army’s passage, slays a demon-hunting heretic to save his fellow immortal kin, and destroys a ghost in embroidered shoes to rescue a girl whose life has been swapped. At the grand moon-worship ceremony of the Yellow Immortals, he wins the recognition of his entire clan and takes command of eight thousand Yellow Immortal troops.
But the northern alliance of demonic sects launches an all-out assault with the “Five Immortals Soul-Devouring Banner,” a weapon designed specifically to counter the immortals. This forces the true form of the Yellow Immortal within Gu Shan to awaken completely. His towering golden form appears, crushing the Soul-Devouring Banner and wiping out every attacker. The deed draws the attention of the Underworld. Black and White Impermanence arrive in person to claim his life, while countless troops of the dead surround the village.
To protect his family and the righteous path, Gu Shan leads the entire Yellow Immortal clan in facing the might of the Underworld. Before the Book of Life and Death, he declares with unwavering resolve: “If the Underworld is unjust, then I’ll defy Heaven!” In the end, through his compassion and sense of responsibility, he alters the Book of Life and Death, sets right the balance of good and evil in the mortal world, and earns the respect of all three realms.
This is the thrilling legend of a young man who, with the Yellow Immortal at his side, suppresses a hundred ghosts, destroys demonic sects, battles the Underworld, and ultimately safeguards peace in the mortal world for generations to come.
