The story follows a truly supernatural apocalypse, blending the political intrigue of The Underworld and the palace power struggles of Emperor Qianlong. At its heart is a world of modern souls, a sinister Underworld Emperor System, and a supernatural apocalypse. The protagonist, Xu Hongbin, is a graduate student specializing in folk supernatural history and paranormal events. On the night Emperor Qianlong is buried, he transmigrates into the body of the chief palace guard stationed beside the emperor's mausoleum and becomes bound to the Underworld Emperor System. The System's quests are deeply tied to the Qing Dynasty's return to the Underworld, and its rewards focus on the Underworld's economic development, institutional reform, and modern management techniques.
