From the meeting in the fog in the first chapter, to the farewell at the dock in the fourth chapter, to six years of waiting and suffering, and finally in the second volume, they reunite and stay together until they die - this is a complete transition. At the end, Zhao Ning stands in front of the window looking at the Suzhou River, echoing the first chapter of the opening chapter; and the thimble and the two letters have also completed their narrative mission.
The Suzhou River runs throughout, serving as both a background and an image. It flows quietly, witnessing everything - separation and reunion, waiting and perseverance, war and peace. This deep world is only worth it because of such a river and such a person.
