Chongzhen's Revival: Rebuilding the Ming Dynasty

Zhang Yang, a seasoned modern historian, died suddenly of cardiac arrest after staying up all night organizing historical records from the late Ming. His soul traveled back to the Prince of Xin's residence in the Forbidden City on the twenty-second day of the eighth month of the seventh year of the Tianqi reign, where he became Zhu Youjian, the seventeen-year-old Chongzhen Emperor, who was about to ascend the throne.

Armed with a complete understanding of late Ming history, modern administrative principles, basic industrial knowledge, and strategic thinking, he completely rejects the fatal flaws of the original Chongzhen: suspicion, impatience, stubbornness, excessive scrutiny, and lack of generosity. He follows a core strategy of “secure imperial authority first, then root out accumulated abuses, strengthen the foundations and ensure the people's welfare, build a strong army to repel foreign threats, pursue reform and progress, and restore a golden age.” Step by step, he dismantles the systemic deadlock that brought down the late Ming, reverses the fate that would have ended with the dynasty's fall and his suicide at Coal Hill, and ultimately ushers in a “Chongzhen Restoration” surpassing the reigns of Ren and Xuan, forging a powerful, unified Ming empire on a global scale.
