Lin Mo, an apprentice at a general store in Qingwa Town, worries every day about his rising rent, yet keeps a secret: he always sees an endless sea of blood-red flowers in his dreams, along with a mysterious woman who calls his name.
One stormy night, a one-eyed peddler appears out of nowhere on a roof beam and offers him a wooden box covered in runes in exchange for delivering a message. From then on, his peaceful life is completely shattered. A peddler who can fly, his friend A Wu, who suddenly grows rich only to turn into slime, and a girl in red with a silver lock pendant who is seized by officials... one strange event follows another. The silver lock pendant on his chest, left to him by his parents, is exactly like the girl's, and can even unleash a white light that burns evil beings.
When he pulls a broken sword engraved with the character "Dust" from a mass grave, and the same mark appears on the back of his hand, Lin Mo learns that he bears a blood feud against a mysterious organization called the Underworld Bureau. His parents' disappearance, his friend's tragic death, the identity of the girl in red, and even the white-and-yellow weasel that always helps him from the shadows all point to a lost book, The Secret Record of Soul Locking, and a betrayal spanning more than a decade.
To uncover the truth, he sets out with the broken sword and silver lock, journeying from mist-shrouded mountains to Luoxia City, where undercurrents run deep. The Underworld Bureau's guards pursue him like shadows, and the mark of the Soul-Locking Flower grows ever clearer in his dreams. Gradually, he discovers that he is not only a descendant of "Dust," but also holds the key to overthrowing the Underworld Bureau. Those who seem to be enemies may have their reasons, while those who appear to offer help may harbor ulterior motives.
This is an adventure through a world of mortals and dark arts, betrayal and redemption. The young Lin Mo will eventually uncover the secret of the blood-red sea of flowers and make his choice between vengeance and righteousness.
