The “Court of Atonement,” led by its presiding judge, carefully orchestrated a murder and framed Lin Wan to cover up its crimes of using supernatural rituals to gain power. It then wielded both judicial and supernatural forces to obstruct her appeal.
If Lin Wan cannot prove her innocence at trial, she will not only be sentenced to death, but her soul will also be sacrificed by the “Court of Atonement” to complete a “Soul Refining Ritual,” erasing her from existence entirely. If Chen Mo fails, the penalty for his System mission will strip him of all the supernatural powers he has gained, and the System may even erase him.
Within 24 hours, Chen Mo must use his newly activated “Supernatural Detective System” to gather enough evidence to overturn the verdict in court. This means that an ordinary man who has only just encountered the supernatural must investigate a superhuman killer while supernatural forces interfere and real-world laws close in around him.
The System gives Chen Mo power, but each use of its abilities consumes his vital energy, shortening his life. Overusing them could cause him to die before his time. Meanwhile, burdened by the stigma of “patricide” and shaken by the supernatural truth she has witnessed, Lin Wan is caught in an emotional maelstrom of self-doubt and vengeance. She may even sacrifice her conscience to win.
Chen Mo and Lin Wan begin with a purely professional relationship: lawyer and defendant. But as the investigation deepens, Chen Mo discovers that Lin Wan seems to be hiding secrets of her own connected to the supernatural.
