Under the Bill: a Record of Life at the Bottom of America

Daniel lives in a seemingly functioning American county. After the divorce, he had to maintain his duties as a father in two residences at the same time. He had to take night shifts, repair old cars, pay for car insurance, pay for medicines, keep an eye on his son's asthma and his daughter's application for college, and he had to wait for a tax refund that would never catch up with the deadline. On their own, these problems are not big. But when salary shrinks, white envelopes, post-emergency billing statements, school lunch accounts, student aid forms, joint custody adjustments, and increasingly expensive copays all add up, life begins to leave only one choice: which one to save first, which one to give up first.
