This is a film about Chinese entrepreneurial spirit spanning thirty-six years. In 1989, Chen Wanqiu resigned from the Northeast and moved south to Hainan. She narrowly escaped death from moving bricks on a construction site and moved to Pudong, Shanghai, becoming a generational real estate queen. In 1995, Wang Chunyan set up a stall to sell dried fruits, and was called a "kefu". She started getting up at three o'clock in the morning, and spent twenty years putting "happy" brand dried fruits into CCTV advertisements, shutting up those who said she was tough. In 2005, Li Min bought a bankrupt state-owned enterprise and started from scratch with 20 female workers. She has experienced the zero-defect requirements of Japanese orders, returns from U. S. Customs, the highlight of the listing bell, and the overnight baldness of being accused of fraud by short-selling institutions. She only believes in one sentence: People who are fake will not be able to sleep at night. In 2015, Zhang Beichen, an associate researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, resigned and went to work to develop China's first gene therapy drug approved by the US FDA. The secret to his success: We are more patient than Americans. The stories of four people are linked together by Lin Xiaoman, a director who has been making documentaries for twenty years. She chased them from Hainan to Beijing, from setting up a stall to ringing the bell, and used her camera to record every step of them and them - three women and one man, climbing up from the bottom. None of them are rich second generation. They just caught up with the good times of reform and opening up, gritted their teeth, and weathered every ebb and flow. This is an epic about Chinese entrepreneurs and a story about every ordinary person. Because when the next wave comes, you may be the one standing on the shore.
