Working the Night Shift at the Funeral Home

Huang Yan graduated from graduate school straight into unemployment, so he took a job as a security guard at a funeral home.

Bored during the night shift, he browsed his phone and read high-martial-arts novels, thinking, If I had powers like that, why would I work?

At three in the morning, something knocked from inside a refrigerated drawer.

Trembling, he opened it. The corpse sat up and grabbed him by the throat.

At death's door, Huang Yan burst into blazing flames and burned the corpse to ash.

He stared at his hands, stunned.

The next second, his phone rang.

"Hello, this is the National Department of Special Affairs. We saw the extraordinary fire you just awakened. Would you be interested in talking?"

Huang Yan: "Wait, let me ask one thing first. Do you get social insurance and a housing fund as a security guard? And if I work for you, do I get them too?"

There was silence on the other end for three seconds.

"...Yes."

From that night on, Huang Yan, the funeral home security guard, began an unusual government job: catching up on sleep by day, hunting ghosts at night, and working overtime on weekends.

Until one day, he discovered that the old woman who came every day to the farewell hall to "visit" her husband had been dead for thirty years.
