The Abyss of Azure Clouds

When he opens his eyes, he remembers nothing.

He’s covered in blood, collapsed beside a stream. The most valuable thing he owns is a token engraved with the character “Yuan.” It’s hideous, like someone who can’t write tried to carve it with a knife.

The girl who takes him in asks his name. He thinks for a moment and says he might be surnamed Ji.

Chicken Yuan.

Everyone at Qingyun Sect thinks the name is funny. He’s a second-level Qi Refining medicine boy. Why pick any name other than Chicken Yuan?

Later, he gradually realizes something is wrong. The spiritual energy within him flows along an extremely strange path, as if someone with cultivation above the Deity Transformation stage had opened and tempered it. His wounds heal at an absurd speed, as though his body remembers how.

Later still, someone notices that when light shines on the back of the token at his waist, a complete “Ji” faintly appears.

So his surname isn’t Chicken.

It’s Ji, written with the woman radical. Ji of the Zhou royal house. The Ji clan that was wiped out three hundred years ago.

People at the sect begin to gossip:

“That Chicken Yuan from the alchemy room, do you know his surname?”

“Chicken, obviously.”

“No. It’s Ji.”
