Five-year-old Yang Wucai transmigrates and is taken from the Northeast to Japan by Kitano Saburo, an agent working for Doihara Kenji. To escape his fate, he reveals a little mathematical talent and becomes Kitano Saburo’s adopted son, taking the name Kitano Takeshi.
Thirteen years later, Yang Wu returns to Shanghai with Kitano Saburo’s legacy. He becomes a friend of the Sorge Group, a staunch ally of the Communist Party, and a close partner of the military intelligence service.
In 1965, the Kitano Conglomerate founded by Yang Wu stands tall in Japan, becoming one of the country’s major conglomerates.
During an interview with Time magazine, a reporter asks him:
“Mr. Kitano, how did you build one of Japan’s largest conglomerates from nothing? Could you tell us about your financial expertise?”
Yang Wu smiles faintly. “What do I know about finance? It’s all the wealth of the Japanese people behind me. I’m just looking after it.”
“But all your business partners say you even swindle your own people.”
“Slander.”
